As a boy, I often visited with My great grandmother. She
was born in 1883, and grew up in Camp San Saba on the
Texas Frontier. She told me wonderful stories of her
childhood. She told of how it was common for Native
Americans to show up at her house. She would look out
the window, and see them outside watering their horses
at the trough. She said that while there was never any
big problems, it was always a tense time, since there
were always stories of conflicts between the Natives and
the white settlers in the area. As I remember her
telling me these stories, I really long for those days,
and I think of all the questions I wish I had asked her.
Did she ever speak with one of the Indians? Did they
ever trade with the Indians. So many things that I wish
I had asked her, but I was just a little boy, and I had
no way of knowing at the time what a rare privilege it
was to hear first hand accounts of the Texas frontier.
These stories from my great grandmother helped to spur
my interests in history and Native American culture. I
have enjoyed collecting artifacts and images of Native
Americans. The photograph below was taken in about 1900.
The original black and white image was hand tinted by an
unknown artist, creating this haunting image. I am happy to be able to offer Archival Grade

You can see that this is one of the photographs
which I have on display in my own office. I enjoy mixing photographs
of Cowboys, Indians, and then a few western landscapes. The safe in
the left of the photograph was made in 1896, and belonged to my
Grandfather. I enjoy creating a "Old West" theme in my office, and I
think the Native American photographs help create this theme. My
wife calls the office the "Man Room". It was the one room in the
house I was given free reign to decorate. No flower prints or
pastels in this room. It has all the things I love, and is a
wonderful place to work.
We are sure you will enjoy this fine vintage
print. This is one of the prints which I display in my own office.
